Dwight Howard Alley Oop Play

Written by Coach Peterman

I have coached at the NCAA Division 2 (Southwestern Oklahoma State University), NAIA (USAO), and JUCO Levels (Blinn College and Carl Albert State College) as well as high school. I just felt that fellow coaches especially young coaches need to constantly work on their “game”. Just like the basketball players that we coach. We as coaches need to improve ourselves. That is my story and why I do this blog.

Today’s basketball plays are a Dwight Howard Alley Oop Play for the LA Lakers. Dwight Howard is one of the best post players of our times. While playing for the Los Angeles Lakers Howard made his best games. This is an alley oop play we saw the Lakers implement many times in the season. Just check the movement of the point forward and the screen he makes in the second part of the play. Also check the screens made in the final part of the play, when Howard (the 5) moves to the basket and scores with the alley oop.

I hope that you enjoy the basketball plays that Coach Gibson Pryor donated to us. It is great for teams of all levels. Youth teams might also implement this. Although it looks a bit complicated, all you need is players who can read your opponents’ defense. You also need a good point guard with good vision of the court and able to screen. Just diagram this play and find alternatives for your own implementation of it with your players and your team.
